"Taos” addresses the tension between spontaneity and plan, juxtaposing the freeform landscape with a symmetrical border composed of traditional shapes and symbols. An I Ching hexagram is woven into the structured border. Its advice to “be receptive to the inner wisdom which transcends your intellect” was my guide for weaving the interior panel. It is fitting that the two sets of six lines that form the hexagram are the lake above, the mountain below, imagery that was already in my mind’s eye before I consulted the I Ching.
