About the Artist

My weaving career began in Massachusetts, but I have lived and worked in my home studio in San Diego since 1996. Following a series of workshops with tapestry master Archie Brennan in 1999, I primarily wove tapestries for the next 20 years. In 2018 my interest shifted to transparency weaving. Throughout the pandemic, when everything in the world felt so heavy and dark, my transparencies gave me an emotional lift because they are light and airy and, somehow, refreshing. My work has been included in juried exhibitions throughout the U.S. and I also teach my techniques throughout the country. I am a member of California Fibers, a juried group of professional fiber artists. I am a Board member and active leader of the San Diego Creative Weavers’ Guild.

A creative life is an interesting journey. An artist’s portfolio reveals their history of creative exploration. I have long considered myself a tapestry weaver, but by following my muse my work has evolved into new woven forms. I still rely on tapestry weaving techniques but the work itself has moved outside of that traditional realm. My current work explores cloth that has a lightness of energy that is at once uplifting and engaging. My transparent weavings occupy space in a unique way, moving with the very breath of the viewer. Hung mid-room, they are not a barrier but a lens through which to observe space. What is left out is just as important as what is included, the space between the threads alive with potential. For me as a weaver, it is a matter of listening to the threads, letting them tell me the story of what they want to be. The softer the vision, the better I feel I have met my intention.
